Rebranding PS Vertelt

Strategic rebranding of theater company that puts focus on inequality of opportunity.

After 15 years of making theater under the name PS|theater, the Leiden-based company chose a new name and branding. This name and appearance better express what they do and who they want to be. Whereas previous stories were gathered from the city, for the past few years PS has been telling underreported stories of inequality of opportunity. The group aims to make these stories ‘visible, relatable, and open for discussion’ in places where life unfolds and decisions are made: in the canteen of a work development company, the auditorium of a college, City Hall, or the theater. A fine stance that the identity must, of course, align with in every respect.

Brand strategy

PS Vertelt. Want: PS Vertelt, Verbindt, Verandert.

To fully understand where PS|theater comes from, who we are, what we stand for, and where we want to go, we started this project with a strategic session. Some elements that emerged from this were: the word ‘theater’ in the name no longer covers the scope of PS, as much more is being produced. Among other things, podcasts, videos, and games are also being made. Theater in the sense of a theater production is not the starting point, but the means to tell a story. Furthermore, PS|theater had a somewhat sweet image, one that aligned beautifully with their identity as a local company in the early years, but which is no longer applicable in the present day. The most important conclusion: a new name with a strong visual identity, because PS deserves to be seen. PS Vertelt. (‘PS Tells’) Because: PS Vertelt, Verbindt, Verandert (PS Tells, Connects, Changes).

Branding

PS Vertelt has the dream of bridging the gap between the underprivileged and the privileged. They truly champion inequality of opportunity and manage to make this visible, relatable, and open for discussion through diverse theatrical productions. In the branding, we aimed for a balance between the activist nature of the themes (inequality of opportunity) and the artistic character of theater, among other things. This manifests itself in a visual identity that stands firm, with bright colors, clear typography, and a visual language that resonates. The color red has always been the main color of PS; we have retained this partly for recognizability and partly because this color aligns perfectly with the character of PS Vertelt.

Webdesign en development

Online, this new branding has been implemented in a modern website. Here, too, you will find bright colors, clear typography, and space for images and stories. Within every project, there is room to share background stories and include sufficient visuals, and we have created a bumper animation of the logo that effectively showcases the dynamism of PS.

Can we translate your passion into a strong brand?
